Several community organizations are sponsoring a Town Hall on the Health and Economic Harms of Initiative 2117, which seeks to repeal Washington’s Climate Commitment Act (CCA). This event aims to inform Yakima residents about the significant environmental and economic impacts of the proposed repeal and what individuals can do to take action.
The event will feature a panel of experts, including:

• Miles McPhee, Ph.D., McPhee Research Co., Naches, WA – climate change researcher with 40 years of polar air-ice-ocean research.
• Raymond L. Paolella, J.D., B.S.E.E., Environmental Lawyer with 30 years of experience, former member of the Washington State Growth Management Hearings Board.
• Rachel Stowell-Lopez, MS, OMS II, and Paige Ravelo, OMS II – medical students at PNWU and officers of the Student Activism Coalition.
• Mark Baldwin, D.O., FACOI, FASN, Professor at PNWU, recently published an article titled “Climate Change and Kidney Disease.”
• Eric M. Hohman, PA-C, Pediatric Provider at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic.

Attendees will also learn how communities in Yakima City and County, identified as environmentally overburdened by the Washington State Department of Health Washington Environmental Health Disparities Map, are at the greatest risk if the CCA is repealed. The Risk of Repeal Map will be displayed, showing how CCA-funded projects, including many in Yakima City and County, are protecting these vulnerable areas.

Initiative 2117 would end protections for our air, water, forests, and farmland. It would also devastate essential transportation and infrastructure projects. Most concerning, I-2117 would roll back environmental justice efforts aimed at addressing health inequities caused by pollution in overburdened communities.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn how they can help stop the repeal of the CCA.

Event Highlights:
• Complimentary light dinner will be provided.
• Live musical entertainment by Michael Cabrera.
• Interpretation services will be available.

This event is free and open to the public.
