I am sending two photos of Yakima County League of Women Voters who participated in the Yakima Valley Sunfair Parade on Saturday, September 20th. The morning was the perfect day for walking or being driven in a vehicle.

One photo is of Joy McKinney who walked as a solar panel with Yakima Climate 350 and Citizens’ Climate Lobby of Yakima. The second photo is with Janis Luvaas, treasurer and Cindy Olivas, president. Both of us held our signs proudly as we walked with the Yakima Indivisible Grassroot Organization, which is non-partisan.

The route started at 16th Ave. & W. Yakima Ave. and ended in front of the YMCA building on N. Naches Ave. It was a 1.4-mile-long walk. There were lots of spectators watching the event sitting or standing, from young to old, some with 3 generations of family members. It was great to see Native Americans, Asians, Latinos, and Caucasians side by side watching the parade.

By the end of the route my voice was hoarse as I was getting out the message in English and in Spanish for people to vote. I also had some short conversations with people watching and was also shaking hands. Many people thanked the league for the work that is done to get people to vote.

It was a proud moment to represent the League of Women Voters of Yakima County and the State of Washington.
